Tasting Notes For Paul Hobbs Beckstoffer Las Piedras Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Possessing a deep garnet core and aromas of sweet Morello cherry, baker’s mocha and savory herbs, this 2020 is a deeply compelling wine with remarkable depth and concentration of flavors. A backbone of firm tannins support expressive layers of blackcurrant and blueberry confiture, with an underlying crushed rock minerality and lift of acidity that lends tension to the long, seamless finish.

Critic Ratings

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – Rated 96:
The lushest and most complete of Hobbs’s 2020 Cabs is the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard, which Hobbs recalled being picked on September 26. It’s rich and cedary (aged in 88% new French oak) but loaded with plums and blackberries. Full-bodied and plush, it finishes with a soft dusting of cocoa powder-like tannins.
James Suckling Review – Rated 96:
A linear wine with fine-grained tannins with length and focus. Some dried stone character. Blackcurrant and blueberry. Medium body. Pretty fruit and a flavorful finish. Chewy. Piedras with polish. Better after 2027.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is more lifted and perfumed, with both red and blue fruits mixed with candied violets, chocolate, and smoked tobacco. This medium to full-bodied, focused, elegant 2020 has ripe tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length.
